Director's Statement
As a born and raised Angeleno, I have walked the city my whole life and have been fascinated with this settled land. From the buildings, the landscape, the housing, the transportation and most importantly the people that make up the city. Whether trudging next to exposition park or strolling down broadway looking at the abandoned Clifton's Cafeteria building, I saw a series of different stories though each image. These images have profoundly been ingrained in my mind and I went on a quest to find the histories that have permeated the soil of the city. In my mind’s eye, the pawn shop on the corner of Olive has turned into a front for stolen watches, the flower shop on 5th street has become a four generational epic of an immigrant family struggling to survive. All these places have a story that needs to be thought up and told. So in a way, it is the city itself that speaks to me and has made me want to be a filmmaker. It was this city that I wanted to make the setting of my debut film Bobby.
